There are lots of things throughout the day that I try to put a mental star next to, to remind myself that I want to remember this someday. Most of those things get lost, I figured while I had a minute, I should jot some things down that I have been keeping in mind. Maybe then, my mind can have room for other things :) So this is mostly for me, but so you can know the little things too that warm our hearts about our children:
Savanna is such a sweet, calm, yet stubborn baby. Despite an active older brother who gets territorial over toys and chairs and spots on the floor, she continues to go about her business of exploring and discovering. Occasionally though she pushes back or holds her ground and it makes me laugh to watch. She is not quite 9 months old (next Friday she will be), but she is starting to try to push through with her strong will. She is pulling up and starting to cruise a little bit. She has discovered that she can reach the movies up on the entertainment center (the ones that Alex watches most--so of course he doesn't want her touching his movies), she can reach the books on the bookshelf (though she only goes for the second shelf where the kids' books are, not the bottom shelf, full of Keith and my books). She LOVES dumping blocks out and swishing her arm through them. I think she likes the sound. She also gathers things in one hand. It is fun to watch her maneuver the objects she wants to keep in her hands so that she can fit another. Then, since she mostly army-crawls, she goes scurrying across the floor with fistfuls of treasures. She also does this when eating, gathering utensils. She will often end up with multiple spoons in one hand, as she steals them from me. She has not been getting enough to eat while nursing we discovered when, after nursing her both sides, she was still really fussy, so I made her a bottle and she greedily began drinking it (she hasn't in the past taken a bottle, even filled with expressed milk). So that was a shock. It made me pretty sad to think that maybe some of the fussing I have been attributing to her teething, has actually been hunger. :*(
She LOVES diapers. If you are changing her, it is best to give her a diaper to hang on to, she will then happily lie there as you change her, but do not take it away, or she'll be mad! Thus, we have diapers floating around in odd places.
Alex has really improved on potty training. Despite having some diarrhea, he hasn't had an accident in over a week, even running to the bathroom to go potty when he has a diaper on (like when he's first gotten up, or during church). And making it in stores all the way to the bathroom, sometimes waiting until we have finished checking out. He is quite entertaining while he goes to the bathroom. Since his bowels have been loose, we have been following him in there to help when he's done and the conversations that occur while he's going potty have us laughing quite a bit. He is a bit obsessed with poop and pooping. But it's getting in the toilet, which he had some trouble with for a couple of weeks, so we are grateful.
Despite his reticence to share, he really does love his sister. He gives her hugs and kisses all day long. He will give a hug and a kiss and then direct you to give her a hug and kiss too. He likes to share if he gets to decide what she gets.
Alex has been remembering songs better and will sing them (it's cute to hear him try to actually sing a tune and not just monotone) to himself, to Savanna, and with us. He likes to sing by himself usually though and if you join him he will tell you to stop, that he is singing it. Or the other day I started singing a song and he told me, "You can't sing Handy Manny!" I didn't think I was that bad! He is also starting to dance--a funny stomping fast footed dance that makes me smile. He will invite us to dance with him. And if we ask him to wiggle...so cute!
He is also able to remember a lot of the books that we read often and will sit down and 'read' the book. He always takes a book or two to bed with him, even though it is dark and he can't see them.
He has started wanting us to stay with him in his room, holding his hand, until he falls asleep. It is annoying sometimes when there are lots of other things to do, but then I have to remind myself that this isn't going to last long. Soon he won't want to hold my hand, and I should enjoy this and treasure this time with him while it lasts. He is more important than the dishes in the sink.
Since Christmas break started, he has been really cuddly with Keith. He will give him long hugs and sit with him. He asks about him while he's at school and wants to 'go get him'. It is so fun to watch their relationship deepen.
Well, that should do it for now. Hopefully we get a new camera soon and we can start posting pictures again!
