Two Miles and Milestones

Some of you may know that Keith signed up for a 5K this October and so we have been doing a "from couch potato to 5K" training regimen. Monday we ran 25 minutes (just over 2 miles). Alex is our cheerleader, he helps us to keep going when we get tired. The first time we ran 20 minutes I was dragging after about 11 and needed some encouragement, I told Alex to tell Mommy 'You can do it'. He started waving me on and babbling! What a great helper! We have three weeks left of the training and then it's free style from there on out. It's amazing that two months ago, although we did some workout videos at home, neither of us had done any running or endurance type things for over a year and now here we are running further than we've ever run in our lives and looking at increasing that even more over the next month.

Alex's language skills seem to be picking up dramatically. There are a lot of times that I stop and think, 'did he really just say that?' He will go and get his shoes and bring them to me and tell me "shoe" and "go". He will drop something and ask, "where go?" or see something and ask, "what's that?" He has a word for Dog, Cat, he can say Mommy and Dad, sometimes I hear 'thank you', 'outside' and recently he's started to say 'cracker'.
Of course these are not with great diction but they are distinguishable and hearing it regularly I know which is which. It's exciting to foresee the day that he will be able to really say what he wants and have a conversation more than a sentence or two.

Alex's first molar has finally broken through!!!! That was a long time coming! Poor little guy, teething is such a pain, literally! He's such a trooper though, we rarely can tell that it's going on.

  1. It's fun when you can understand his babbling and other people can't. People used to look at me everytime Kayla was talking because they couldn't figure out what she was saying. Now it just blows them away at how she communicates with them.

    Good luck with the 5K!
